Catch-up and 16 – 19 Funding

Covid-19 Catch-up Premium Funding and 16 - 19 Tuition Fund Statement

2020/2021

In July, the Department of Education announced funding to schools to support students to catch up as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic which has created a period of considerable disruption for every child.  At Rooks Heath, we believe that we will be able to maximise the funding to ensure that every child achieves success. Our decision-making has been involved using research into best practice together with a history of what works so no child is left behind.

The Catch-up Premium targets students aged 11 – 16 to provide additional, targeted support for those children and young people who need the most help. Much of this provision will come from the National Tutoring Programme but will include additional interventions and resources.

The 16-19 Tuition Fund is available to all 16 to 19 providers such as Rooks Heath School.

The funding is ring fenced for schools, colleges and other 16 - 19 providers in order to support small group tuition for students in English, Maths and other courses wh ere learning has been disrupted.  The guidance indicates that the funding must be used to support students enrolled on 16 - 19 study programmes who did not achieve a Grade 4 or 5 in GCSE Maths and/or GCSE English by age 16. Priority will be given to those who achieved below Grade 4 in GCSE Maths and/or GCSE English.

Rooks Heath School is committed to using a variety of interventions including small group tuition funding to mitigate against the impact of the pandemic on our students.

The subjects covered in the tuition will primarily be in English and Maths but we reserve the flexibility to support students in other areas identified according to need and existing programmes.

Students will be selected for small group tuition based on the guidance released by the Education and Skills.

Funding Agency (ESFA). The full guidance can be accessed here: ESFA Guidance - 16-to-19-tuition-fund

We are committed to providing support for students who:

•    Have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) Plan or who suffer adverse contexts affecting their ability to learn
•    Have a Grade 3 or below in GCSE Maths and/or GCSE English at KS5
•    Students who have had barriers to learning including difficulties with access to remote-learning

Examples of how the funds will be invested include the following:

•    Specialist Resources / Equipment for students
•    1:1 Mentoring with a focus on learning skills, SEMH, Transition
•    Small Group subject tuition through a combination of in-school personnel and external agencies from the National Tutoring Programme.
•    Overcoming barriers with access to remote-learning

Details of our plan can be found in the document: COVID-19 catch-up premium and 16 -19 Tuition Fund Statement.

We continue to use our internal systems of tracking student engagement and progress to refine the delivery of the curriculum and tailor teaching and learning to meet the needs of all students. Through continued teaching, learning and assessment, students will be identified for additional catch-up support and the best methods of intervention on offer will be applied to meet the learning needs and support them in their next steps in education or employment.
