Opportunity through Learning

Year 9 Literacy Support Group

We allow students to choose this option instead of a Modern Foreign Language optional choice. Students will have five lessons a fortnight, and, as with Year 8, they will be working through the planned and prepared tasks aimed at enabling them to achieve success in terms of the functional elements of the Year 9 National Curriculum syllabus.

Tasks for Speaking and Listening include: presentations on many topics, debates on topics such as school uniform and bullying. Students will read plays and novels and will take part in activities which include hot seating, storyboard creation and discussion about key themes, settings and the plot. Their writing tasks include descriptive and narrative writing, letters of complaint and writing poems on topics like school and home.
