Opportunity through Learning

Key Stage 5

Students who enjoy Maths can stay on in the Sixth Form to study AS and A-level Maths.

A Level maths is for students who are interested in Mathematics and its application in the real world.

The A-level course consists of six modules (four Pure modules and any two from Mechanics, Statistics or Decision Maths).  Students study three modules in Year 12 and three modules in Year 13.  Exceptional students are also encouraged to take Further Mathematics at A level for which a grade A/A* in GCSE Maths is essential.

All students are encouraged to take part in the Mathematical Challenges and we aim to stimulate their interest with a variety of talks and lectures, both inside and outside the College.  Revision days are organised each year at UCL and Imperial College London.

All of our A-level courses follow the Edexcel Specification.

External assessments are all 1 hour and 30 minutes and are taken in June.  Past papers are available freely.

NB: Students in the sixth form are expected to spend at least 5 hours each week on homework and independent learning.
