Opportunity through Learning

Key Stage 3

KS3 music is all about exploring music from a wide range of different eras in time and styles in a highly practical and engaging way. We encourage students to listen to and learn about many diverse musical styles to expand their knowledge further than what they listen to themselves. They are lucky enough to have access to fantastic musical equipment so that lessons can be about ‘doing’ rather than just ‘studying.’

All students must take music in Year 7 and Year 8. Students will have two hour lessons every fortnight. They also have the option to extend their musical skills by opting to join a musical ensemble, take part in music concerts, attend musical trips, or even just come and practice at lunch times in the classroom or practice rooms.

Students are given the opportunity to carry on their instrumental music lessons from primary school in hope that they may continue to develop their musical skills. Likewise, students may decide to start instrumental lessons to extend the skills they are developing in the classroom.
