Key Stage 3
German is taught in Years 7, 8 and 9. There are two lessons per week in Years 7 and 8 using the Echo series of text books, as well as a wide range of other resources. In Year 9 German is an option subject and there are five lessons per fortnight. This is a Bridging Course, where the aim is to develop the German language and prepare for the GCSE course. In the summer term we are aiming to start the GCSE syllabus.
Key Stage 4
German is a very popular GCSE subject. We have a consistently high A*- C rate - in 2016 : 88% and in 2015 : 100%.
We firmly believe that German is a language which all students, whether ‘natural’ linguists or not, can learn successfully.
The examination board used is AQA. German is an option subject where the students have five lessons a fortnight in Year 10 and in Year 11.
We use the Logo 4, AQA German text books as well as independent resources like hand outs or worksheets. We also offer interactive learning; students enjoy using Boardworks, Canvas and a range of German learning websites. The majority of students sit the Higher Tier paper in all the language skills (listening, reading, speaking and writing).
In 2014 we have organised a very successful 4 days trip to Cologne in Germany. We are aiming to run a trip to Germany every second year.
