Rooks Heath College

Opportunity through Learning

English Study Clubs

What extra help is on offer after college?

English Club in Year 7,8 and 9:

At Rooks Heath, the English Department recognises the importance of reading and writing.  Every Wednesday after college we run an English workshop to help with:

1. Students who are already succeeding in English and want to develop further

2. Students who are capable in English but want to take part in an extra-curricular core subject

3. Students who need extra support with reading and writing skills.

English Club is an opportunity for students to develop the building blocks of language, spelling, sentence structure and punctuation.  It is a real chance for them to have fun too! Students from years 7, 8 and 9 are invited, providing an opportunity for them to mingle with students from other year groups.

English Club runs every Wednesday at 3.20 – 4.00pm in AF13

What is Studied in Classes?

Students work through grammar exercises including: adjectives, verbs, adverbs and nouns. They also work on punctuation skills such as colons and semi-colons. Students practice simple clauses and sentences exercises but will also learn key skills such as how to write an essay.

Reading skills are also worked on so students at the club are exposed to a variety of literature.

What students at Rooks Heath say about English Club:

"You can get help from teachers"

"You improve your English and become more confident in lessons"

"You have fun"

"And you always get a reward point too!"
