Computing at Rooks Heath

Computing formerly known as ICT is an exciting and dynamic subject at Rooks Heath.

Our principal aim is to keep our curriculum up to date and as a department we revise what is taught each year to ensure that emerging developments in Computing can be embedded in what we deliver. We believe that all students at Rooks Heath College should be taught to use ICT effectively both within our subject area and in a cross curricular context and should have access to industry standard ICT resources.

ICT lessons at Rooks Heath focus on teaching students practical skills in using a wide variety of software packages and also helping them to achieve the knowledge and skills they need to use ICT in a safe and appropriate way. Staying safe on-line (E-safety) is a very important topic that we cover in depth in Year 7 and revisit in Year 8 and 9 using age appropriate resources that enable students to learn how to avoid the dangers of communication technology.

Whilst the practical skills are used in a broad array of subjects, Computing also aims to educate pupils about the theoretical parts of the subject with in depth coverage of Health & Safety alongside different roles of Computing in business, particularly towards GCSE and A Level options.
