On Wednesday 15th January students in Years 8, 9 and 10 were presented with their Options choices for the next academic year. The process for each year group was explained by Mrs Haddow and the Heads of Department explained the content of each course in a series of assemblies. In addition, students, parents and carers attended an information evening where again Mrs Haddow explained the process and then staff were available to talk about each of the courses on offer. Year 8 are choosing their Bridging Courses. Year 9 are choosing the first four of their six GCSE/BTEC subjects and Year 10 are choosing their final two GCSE/BTEC subjects. The choices that Year 9 are making are very important as the outcome of the qualifications they take in Year 10 and 11 will determine what they can go on to do with their lives. Therefore, on Tuesday this week, all Year 9 students were interviewed with their parents and carers, choices were discussed and recommendations made.
In line with the latest curriculum reforms from the government, students are being encouraged to take a language, History or Geography and double Science at GCSE if they are capable of achieving a grade C or higher. To maximise the chances of success with these subjects at GCSE, Year 8 students are being recommended to continue with a language and History or Geography in Year 9.
Anyone who would like to discuss their child’s options further should contact Mrs Haddow or the appropriate Director of Learning via firstname.lastname@example.org or by telephone.
