A group of Year 12 BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care students visited Brunel University on Monday 11th November 2013. The purpose of the visit was for students to understand how to use a wide range of resources and how to select the type of resource to use. This is linked to referencing and evaluating which is important for achieving higher grades.
‘We were given a 2 hour lecture on how to reference our work correctly along with several worksheets to complete. We found this very useful to us as referencing correctly is vital at University especially if you want to succeed and achieve high. After the lecture, we were given a tour of the library at Brunel University to have a look at how books are organised. I found this very informative because now when I visit a University library, I will know how it works.’ Hana (12 Red).
‘I thought that the best part of the day was walking around the library as I found it very helpful and informative. We learnt about the different types of sources such as books, journals, academic magazines and websites. I would recommend this activity to other students as it was very interesting to learn how students work at university and have a taster of university life.’ Caisha (12 Blue)
