18 German students visited Cologne on 12-14th July 2014, accompanied by 3 members of the MFL department: Frau Caullet, Frau Pucicka and Herr Kunakey. We left Rooks Heath by coach at midnight and travelled through 5 countries – England, France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany- in one day. Our first activity was the visit of Schokoladen Museum, the Chocolate museum in Cologne, where we learnt about Kakaobohnen (coco beans), and how the chocolate is produced. We had a chance to try the Lindt chocolate from a big chocolate fountain. We also visited Kölner Dom (the iconic Cologne Cathedral that was bombarded during the WWII and restored), climbed 157 meters to the top to enjoy the view of the city. On Sunday, we visited Phantasialand, a very fascinating and magical theme park, where we had a chance to go on different exciting and unpredictable rides, enjoy shows and the food- ice cream and cakes. The main attraction was to watch the World Cup Final which Germany won by a whisk! The atmosphere was incredible! The Germans partied all night, singing and sounding the cars horns. On the last day we went on a boat trip and visited the city centre.
During this trip, students had a great opportunity to learn about German culture, traditions, history and practice German. Some comments from our students:
'The trip was totally amazing, filled with many activities. I have enjoyed making new friends, visiting Cologne and I would like to go back to Germany.’ Saranya
‘I really enjoyed this trip. Germany is such amazing country, everyone is so kind and the food is great. I would love to go there again.' Elliot
‘I had a great time in Germany, and thoroughly enjoyed every second of the trip.' Sam
We are now looking forward to another trip to Germany next year!
