Live Well in Harrow – My Community - for speakers of English as a second language

The course will run over 8 weeks and will meet once per week for 2 hours. This is a non accredited course but learners will receive a certificate of achievement.

 Aims:

  • To embed good study skills and improve learners’ understanding of attendance, timekeeping and preparedness for learning
  • To help parents develop their  communication skills in spoken English in everyday life with a focus on community matters and life in Harrow
  • To develop learners skills and confidence with a range of reading and writing tasks for everyday life in the community, e.g.  transport, travel, accessing civic services, health & medical care, schools and education, volunteering, recreation and leisure, shopping.
  • To signpost learners who are speakers of other languages to further opportunities for learning English

NOTE: This course can be adapted to meet specific requirements in discussion with the delivery team.

This course is particularly useful for adults who have a basic level of spoken and written English already and can understand and make themselves understood most of the time (approximate level E1-2).
