Homework forms part of the coursework assessed for the final grade.

The tasks vary widely from preparing for lessons coming up by reading, watching videos or finding props, to consolidating work covered by writing assignments and responding to feedback. BTEC Sports What: There are 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external. Mandatory content (83%). External assessment (58%). Homework tasks will consist of extended reading, vocabulary and learning projects to develop knowledge skills and understanding. No formal homework set as work is ongoing for research and completion of assignments.

What: Making notes to consolidate learning, analysis and evaluation of Practical Assessment Groups (PAGs), completing past paper questions, revision for topic tests, preparing presentations, Kerboodle tasks.

BTEC Applied Science 

What: Ensure learning of key content in units 1 (Ext Cert) and Unit 3 (Diploma) for external exams.  This will include processing data (such as plotting graphs, identifying pattern, calculating standard deviation, chi-squared, t-test, calculating  concentration of unknown solutions), answering essay type questions, planning a complete science investigation report, revise for mock exam and end of topic test.  

For internally assessed units (2,8), learners will spend 4 hours to complete assignments independently after it’s issued by the assessor on the learning aims of the unit according to specification, meet the deadline set and upload onto Microsoft Teams for marking and feedback. 

How Often: 2 or more pieces each week.

What: Prepare for external exam in unit 3,5.  This will include tasks in the booklets prepared on each topic in Biology, Chemistry and Physics revise for UCAS assessments, end of topic tests, mock exam, practice exam questions from past papers and case studies. 

For internally assessed units (4,6,8 and 9), learners will spend at least 5 hours to complete assignments independently after it’s issued by the assessor on the learning aims of the unit without plagiarism and work on case studies, meet the deadline set, upload onto Microsoft Teams for marking and feedback.

What: Answering long and short exam questions, preparing presentations and pre and post topic reading and research.  If two teachers then allocation of work is split pro rata between Paper 1 and Paper 2.
