Drama

The aim of the Drama curriculum in KS4 is to continue to foster an appreciation of Drama, building upon the foundational skills learned in KS3. Currently, the College offers the AQA GCSE. The curriculum is sequenced in a manner to enable students to build upon knowledge and skills which are introduced in each unit, as well as maximising the time allocated for students to develop their performance-based skills to the highest possible standard. Alongside development of practical skills in performance students are also taught to analyse their work and reflect upon successful techniques for lifting a script from the page to the stage, as well as creating their own Drama from a stimulus. They are also taught an appreciation of the skills and techniques used by theatre makers to create meaning for a performance, including staging, lighting, costume and music. The skills and knowledge acquired through the completion of the GCSE will prepare students not only for further study at KS5 but also an appreciation of the Arts and a wider understanding of the world around them.
