Functional Skills English is an essential qualification that equips students with the practical communication skills needed for everyday life, further education, and future employment. The course focuses on developing confidence and competence in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and communication through real-life and meaningful contexts. 

Functional Skills English helps students develop the literacy skills required to participate successfully in society, education, and the workplace. Lessons are designed around practical situations enabling students to apply their learning in a range of contexts. 

Students will develop their ability to:

• Write clearly, accurately, and appropriately for different purposes and audiences.

We use Lexia to support and enhance students' literacy development. Lexia is a personalised, adaptive learning programme that provides targeted instruction based on each student's individual needs and abilities. 

We us Lexia in our Functional Skills English lesson to help students to:
