Personal, Social & Health Education (PHSE)

Personal, social, health and economic education or PSHE aims to give our students the knowledge, skills and understanding to lead confident, healthy and independent lives.

It is now a legal requirement to teach the majority of PSHE and the Department for Education’s (DfE) guidance sets out in detail what schools must cover. In conjunction with DfE guidance and the PSHE Association’s Programmes of Study, our PSHE curriculum sets out learning opportunities for each key stage, in three core themes: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships, and Living in the Wider World. They build in developmental progression by revisiting themes year on year, building on and extending prior learning.

In KS4, students will continue to explore ways to maintain physical, mental and emotional health and wellbeing and how to manage influences and risks in relation to these. They will look at equality and diversity in relationships, and how to respond to risky or negative situations including abuse. Students will learn about their rights and responsibilities as members of families and as proactive citizens in a diverse community. They will look at how to develop employability, team working and leadership skills and plan their next steps after Year 11.
