Blast Beat 2014
The Rooks Heath quarter final stage of the BlastBeat Battle of the Bands competition took place on July 4th.
BlastBeat is an award winning, music and multimedia business programme offered to young people around the country to teach social entrepreneurial business skills, promote young musicians, and support youth communities on a local and national level.
Our team of year 12s had the task of setting up an entertainment business with the goal of holding a Battle of The Bands concert at Rooks Heath. Our company, NXT Level Entertainment, held open auditions for acts, not only from Rooks Heath but from other schools around the borough. Our first knock out round took place earlier this year at the College’s International Evening. Nine acts stood up to perform to the International Evening crowd and also our judges. Six acts made it through to the next round.
Our quarter final event had been a long time in the making. We had already postponed the event due to our headline act dropping out at the last minute but now the stage was ready. Our acts tore through their material giving their all for the crowd and the judges. So impressed were the judges that three acts went through to the next round. Another round later against winners from other events around London and two of our performers had got through to the grand final: Project Enzo (Nower Hill) made it past the judges and D & B (Rooks Heath) were pitted against others in an online public vote.
The final will be taking place in central London on 20th July and we will be in the crowd to cheer them on.
NXT Level Entertainment will be competing in the national business competition for best company. Wish us luck.
